What is the Refundable Medical Expense Supplement (RMES)?
The RMES is a credit (maximum of $1119) provided for eligible individuals who are resident in Canada throughout the year and are 18 years of age or older by the end of the year and have claimed disability support deductions (Line 215). The purpose of the RMES is to provide Canadians with a disability an incentive to work.

How is the Refundable Medical Expense Supplement credit calculated?
The credit is calculated as the lesser of: $1074 or the total 25/15 of the medical expense credit claimed and 25% of the amount deductible for disability support. This amount is then reduced by 5% of the amount that the individual’s income exceeds $24,783 in 2012.
